This will take place Sunday May 20th,from approx 08.00 until 14.30. We have been asked to provide radio coms for the Rotary Club’s charity walk. This year it will include the Big C’s walk of thoughts.
We will need around 10 members to fully man all of their marshal points – as usual we only have to provide radio coms at these points, you won’t be asked to do any marshalling.
This will be the first time RAYNET has covered this walk and it will be entirely new ground for us and the late notification of it will be a challenge to us as an organisation to be able to provide members at short notice. If we can’t cover this, then how can we provide in a real emergency?
Training from this exercise – setting up and maintaining a portable station in the field, finding the location from a map, passing messages during the exercise, learning how we operate. There is also the opportunity to operate control / keep the log / liaise with the organisers at control etc. All in all you can learn a lot.
What will you need? Equipment – I suspect that a handheld should be sufficient but car mobile (assuming access to the marshal points) would be better, those who took part in our aerial making exercise will find that bringing and setting that up will be an exercise in itself. Other things -
We don’t envisage, at the moment, any need for base station involvement in this exercise – any necessary relaying will be done between members on the ground as part of the training process.
If you can only get for a few hours then that is ok, we can slot you in
As we have only had late notice of this I don’t know how suitable locations are if you have family to bring or for access.
Oh yes, nearly forgot – Where is it? It will be taking place near ACLE. I suspect the walk will be down to the river/marshes along the valley towards Upton and back again . . . other than the starting point being at Acle Rec Centre, that’s all we know at the moment
Remember WE NEED YOU
– if you want to take place please email both me and Graham, marking your email RAYNET – Exercise Long Walk.
If you can only join us for a few hours, please say when and we will sort you a location.
Need further info? Contact Graham, M1CQS, Inland Controller.
Look forward to seeing / talking to you on the 20th

Sunday May 20th Exercise Long Walk -
Thank you to all those who turned out for this event, on such a chilly day.
The following has been received from Henry Dent of Great Yarmouth Rotary Club:
Dear Steve and Graham,
Please accept apologies for the delay in recording our thanks to you and your colleagues for the very prompt, efficient
and effective support you provided for us on 20th May.That you were able to assemble a team to cover all our Marshal
Points at very short notice, speaks for itself of the high level of service and commitment your Organisation works to.
We shall be writing in more tangible terms in the near future but we are keen for you to be knowing that we truly value
your excellent help and the co-
achieved in the eleven years of holding our Charity Walks.
With our sincere thanks,
Walk Base and Route Manager.
